PEGATHOUGHTS—excerpts from The legend of God and Pegasus

Simplicity, humor, horse sense and wide vision describes The Legend of God and Pegasus. It is the creation myth of the horse—known for eons by equines, but only now revealed to man.
'“Just when you think you have experienced it all, that’s when it really begins!”'

'A long time ago, before time became a concept, God created our world. At the grand opening—just for effect and fun—He added massive fireworks and a big bang. It was a delightful occasion. Every kind immediately took their place—polar bears went to the North Pole, kangaroos and koalas to Australia, and camels to the Sahara Desert.

Man was the only species who didn’t know his place. It was before the age of Wikipedia and he felt the need for an explanation. He was bewildered and in order to feel better, he created God in his own image and claimed dominion of the whole territory and everyone in it.'

'God pondered how to deal with His favored children, the humans. Finally, He sighed and said, “I’ll have to give those fools the horse as a companion. Unless I do, they will never succeed in their aspirations, any more than I would have been able to set this whole show in motion without your help."

' 'Horses never lie, so what better teacher of life could one have—especially if the horse in question is mythical, cute and cuddly, comes from the heart, and has wings?'

'“I’m tired of being lonely. What I need is a friend—a sidekick, someone who will always be there for Me. He needs to be kind and giving, wise and fun, powerful, and daring. Creating the ideal new campus for the spirits will be so much easier if he and I can brainstorm together. Once the souls are sufficiently challenged on a daily basis, I’m sure they’ll enjoy the serenity of Heaven whenever they get an opportunity to vacation here.'

'Without further ado, He grabbed His magic wand, closed His eyes, and began to manifest. He pictured every aspect of His friend to be and the fun they would have together—the companionship, the laughter, the joy, the brainstorming, etc. Then He made His heart wide open and began filling it with boundless love, joy, and acceptance.

'After what seemed like just a second or two, He heard a soft thud. He opened His eyes and saw the most delightful, horse look-alike, winged creature standing right next to Him.

'God looked up. “How come, Pegasus, you know so much? Even though you have wings, you are just a horse.”

“The horse is the most spiritual of all the species,” Pegasus explained without rancor. “You created us that way, remember?'

'“That’s what Christmas is all about,” God said. “Leaving a legacy—by giving to those who are going to walk in your footsteps.”

'When it was Pegasus’ turn, God gave him the gift of fun.

“Thank You,” Pegasus said. “It’s what I wanted more than anything else. Fun is a good thing. You can never get enough of it—just like you can’t get enough RAM and USB ports. Fun is the fuel that makes the world go around.”

Pegasus gave God his friendship and the wind beneath his wings. “I’ll be there for You always,” he said. “Just tell me when and where You want to fly.”'

''“I think We’ll leave the rainbow where it is,” God said. “It looks very good on the background of the snow.”

“Thank You,” Pegasus said.

The Bethlehem star had finished its vigil at the top of the tree. It rose and began its way across the sky.

“Where is it going?” Pegasus asked.

“To the Holy Land. It must show the way.”

“Who for? The Three Kings?”

“Yes, and for everyone else as well, I think.”

“I have a problem understanding the innkeeper. How could he turn Mary and Joseph away?”

“He probably didn’t know any better.”

“What did he need to know that was so profound? Giving them shelter was a matter of human decency.”

“I know, but it was probably true there wasn’t any room.”

“That is no excuse. Mary was about to give birth, You know.”

“There’s a limit to how many sardines you can stuff into a can. For all we know, the innkeeper may have helped others who were in an equally difficult situation. It is not a big deal. The inn keeper was just a pawn in a bigger game.”

“What do You mean?”

“Who is My best friend and confidante?”

“Me, of course,” Pegasus said.

“Then where do you think I would prefer to have My son born?”

Pegasus eyes lit up as he saw the point. “In a manger—surrounded by animals of course! I never saw it that way before.”

That was one of the lessons I sent Jesus down to teach the humans. Treat animals as your equals. Only when everybody feels and understands the oneness of everything in the universe, will wars come to a stop.”

“And the star of Bethlehem is not just showing the way to where Christ is but to where the animals are as well?”'

'The sleigh immediately turned into a flying carpet, only connected to Pegasus by a single red thread. With God traveling under His own steam, Pegasus just had to flap his wings a couple of times more before they both soared. “Thank You,” Pegasus said. “I’ve always wanted to experience a flying carpet. Thank You for offering me the opportunity.”

'“I’m sorry,” Pegasus said. “I just wanted to help—to make You feel good. Isn’t that why You created me?”
“Yeah! That was the plan. But it’s very unpleasant to have your belief system challenged, especially by a horse.”
“I understand.”'

'"Everything isn’t perfect and just—not even in Heaven,” Pegasus teased. “If You fall, all You have to do is get up again, and pay better attention next time. An experience is a good experience as long as You learn from it. Come on, God, grab onto my tail for a change and let me drag You. It’ll be fun, I bet. We can even create a craze. Let’s call it water skiing!”

'“This energy theory of yours, Pegasus—explain it to Me.”

“It’s a very simple concept. Once you begin seeing things from an energy point of view everything falls in place, but it’s a little difficult to explain.”

God could not help but smile. Nevertheless, His voice grew a little impatient. “Easy to talk, Pegasus; more difficult to deliver. Go on!”

“You haven’t been very clear, so far.”
“I know, but I am doing my best. I’m not God, You know.”

God could not refrain from smiling. “Go on,” He said.

“Okay,” Pegasus went on. We all need to replenish our spiritual energy all the time. We will do almost anything to get more when we are low. We can increase our energy in a number of ways. We can generate it, receive it as a gift, exchange it, or leech it.”'

'"I’m fine,” Pegasus assured Him. “‘Energy in motion’ is who I am. I’m just not in top shape yet, but I soon will be. Moving is just like breathing to me—essential. Motion is emotion, You know!”

“Oh,” God responded, already growing more familiar with Pegasus’ seemingly silly chatter. “I’m just glad you are okay. I didn’t create you just to hurt you.”

“Manifested me, You mean.”

“Same difference,” God pooh-poohed, slightly miffed.

“Not really. I didn’t come out of nowhere. You must be aware of that!”

“What do you mean?” God asked, too stunned to argue.'

'"Down the line when You get a website, You can post all Your bulleted lists on it.”

At first God looked weary at the daunting thought. He feared all the work of setting up and maintaining a website. But the more He thought about the idea, the more it appealed to Him. “I could have a FAQ section, photographs of the two of Us, and all of My slideshows,” He said.

“Excellent,” Pegasus encouraged. “Your domain name could be GodAndPegasus.com.”

“If nobody has taken it yet,” God worried.

“Who would want do that?” Pegasus laughed.

“Don’t you think I should have a Facebook page, too?”

“Of course,” Pegasus replied. “Everyone who is a somebody has one. And while you are at it, don’t forget to tweet on Twitter.”'
